Phillip M. Welch Sunrise 4/13/34 to Sunset 10/25/21 Phillip Mervin Welch was born in Macon, Georgia on April 13th in 1934 to Pearl and Dave Welch. Phillip had 8 siblings including a twin brother. Phillip played sports and worked as a busboy as a young child in Georgia. At an early age he had visions of leaving Georgia and quickly joined the US Air Force Phillip met and married Pearlena Welch and soon they were stationed and relocated to Colorado. Their marriage lasted 15 years and produced three wonderful children: Deborah, and the twins Donald and Ronald Welch. The Welch family moved often, crisscrossing the US and even did stints overseas in Germany (twice) and Italy. Phillip achieved the rank of Senior Master Sargent in the US Air Force and served for over 27 years. He retired when he was only 45 years old. He served tours in the Vietnam War, and in Korea. After the Military, Phillip studied at the Columbia school of Broadcasting. He later wrote News copy and even anchored the Evening News for a local television station in the 1980’s. He also tried his hand as an entrepreneur and opened his own Barbeque Joint in the town of Colton. Later in life, he spent a few years working for the City of Fontana, doing microfiche and “records management”. Phillip was an avid weightlifter and worked out 3 hours a day every Mon. Wed and Friday. He did this religiously for over 42 years. He enjoyed many fishing trips with his twin brother and his sons at local California lakes and in the Ocean. On any given day he could be seen just sitting outside his Fontana home enjoying what he called “watching the grass grow”. Phillip is survived by his siblings Robert (Bobby) Welch of Georgia and Leah Robinson of Arizona. Phillip has 4 grandchildren: Eric Davis of San Diego and Leon Davis of Phoenix Arizona, Donald Welch Jr. and Nicole Welch of Northern California. He has 3 great grandchildren: Annika, Israel, and Austin Davis. He is also survived by a host of cousins, nieces and nephews in and around Georgia.
