September 9, 1948 - November 15, 2021
Roger D. Steelman, 73, of Woodcrest, passed away at home on November 15, 2021. “Uncle Roger”, as he was lovingly known to everyone, was born in Oceanside, CA on September 9,1948 to Thelma and Oscar Steelman II. He attended Garden Grove area schools, including Fullerton College and Orange Coast College and he held multiple bachelor degrees majoring in History. He was a skilled conversationalist who could educate you about almost anything you asked. Roger worked as a Revenue Officer for the Internal Revenue Service for 30 years and loved to tell the tale of how he threatened to seize the Staple Center many moons ago. He enjoyed participating in his church, especially performing readings during mass as he had a very strong deep voice that carried. No microphone needed. He loved God and the Word, and was extremely knowledgeable in it. I'm sure he is having many deep conversations with God now. Roger was also a proud member of the United States Army, having volunteered to serve in Vietnam and it was rare anyone saw him without one of his famous army jackets on. Roger is survived by his sister Karen M. Dodds (Curt), brother Oscar L Steelman III, niece’s Sharla Dietrich (Michael) and Dawn Sibley, nephews Alan Reed (Stephanie) and Todd Steelman (Jill), great nieces Tawny Dekezel, Tori Linn Reed, Gracie Sibley and Miranda Steelman, great-nephews Nathaniel Dietrich, Justin Dietrich, Brennan Dietrich, Hayden Dietrich, Trevor Reed, Dustin Sibley and Tucker Steelman. And many friends who were like family. Roger was predeceased by his parents, Thelma and Oscar, brother-in-law Mark R. Leander and sister-in-law Judy Steelman. Services honoring Roger Steelman will be on December 14, 2021 starting at 11:30 am at Arlington Mortuary, Riverside, CA. Following will be at Riverside National cemetery with a reception at the Dietrich home, with whom he lived with these past 17 years.
